Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 22 Oct 1997

Vol. 152 No. 6

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Henry that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to outline his plans for fortifying flour with folates, in view of the high incidence of neural tube defects in children born in Ireland and the recent advances which show that increased intake of folic acid by potential parents lowers the chances of such an occurrence.

I have also notice from Senator Ridge of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to issue a general directive to CIE to ensure that the voice over facility on the DART, which is not being operated, is immediately restored as it is causing great distress to the visually impaired who cannot be aware of their destination without this facility.

I regard the matter raised by Senator Henry as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret that I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Ridge on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility.
