Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 27 Nov 1997

Vol. 152 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Costello that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he wishes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to take urgent measures to reduce the hospital waiting lists.

I have also received notice from Senator Doyle of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs to review the eligibility for the Christmas bonus for certain categories of social welfare recipients, particularly those who have recently completed CE schemes.

I have also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to intervene to secure the welfare of the residents of Maxwells Terrace, Newry Road, Dundalk, County Louth, currently threatened by consistent oil spillage and petrol fumes.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and I have selected Senator Costello's and Senator Doyle's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Norris may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.

I remind Senators that we are operating under the sessional Order which was agreed yesterday. I ask Senators who wish to raise matters on the Order of Business to be relevant and brief.
