Wednesday, 11 Feb 1998

Vol. 154 No. 3

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Connor that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to review the position of designation of certain sites in County Roscommon as special areas of conservation given the difficulties the proposed designation causes to owners and occupiers of these sites who engage in turf production for domestic heating purposes on these sites.

I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to report on his visit to St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane.

I have also received notice from Senator Avril Doyle of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to address the concerns of the Dublin Horse Owners' Association about the lack of implementation of the Government's own recommendations regarding local horse projects.

I have also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to provide a library for the Cabra/Navan Road area.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to establish immediately the Tipperary Rural and Business Development Institute as a company as the failure to do so is hindering the successful completion of the project.

I have also received notice from Senator Ridge of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to take immediate steps to ensure that young children are not endangered when accompanying their parents or guardians who are selling the Big Issue magazine at major traffic intersections in Dublin.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Connor and Henry as suitable for discussion and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Avril Doyle, Costello, O'Meara and Ridge may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
