Seanad Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 31 Mar 1998

Vol. 154 No. 19

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Leonard that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to provide funding for an electricity generating plant in the Cavan/Monaghan area to deal with the serious situation which exists as a result of the vast amounts of agricultural waste from the poultry and mushroom industry in the region.

I have also received notice from Senator Tom Hayes of the following matter:

In view of the large number of factory closures in south Tipperary over the last year, the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to accept the proposal recently submitted by South Tipperary County Council to include Tipperary town and Carrick-on-Suir in the order of priority for urban renewal.

I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to request the British Government to restore parity of esteem between the degrees awarded by the Royal Colleges of Surgeons and Physicians in the United Kingdom and in Ireland in view of the efforts beings made by the Government to establish North-South and east-west bodies on these islands with health being one of the designated areas.

I regard the matters raised by Senator Leonard and Senator Tom Hayes as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Henry may give notice on another day of the matter she wishes to raise.
