Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 27 May 1998

Vol. 155 No. 15

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Finneran that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation to provide the necessary lottery funds to the convent secondary school, Roscommon town, for the refurbishment of their multi-purpose hall which is community based.

I have also received notice from Senator Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to provide funding for the construction and development of Turlough Park House, Castlebar, County Mayo.

I have also received notice from Senator Avril Doyle of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to make a statement on the implications of the exclusion of VTOS courses from the newly launched back to education scheme.

I have also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation to ensure that the funding for recreational sport, special projects and ordinary grants are paid to vocational education committees on time.

I have also received notice from Senator Glynn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to provide funding for the provision of a pedestrian underpass at Moran's Bridge over the Royal Canal, Mullingar, County Westmeath.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources to carry out, as a matter of urgency, a further study and analysis on the effects on inland waterways, and specifically on the eco-system of Lough Derg, of the growth of the zebra mussel population.

I have also received notice from Senator McGowan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to raise with Telecom Éireann the matter of having calls charged at the same rate nationally.

I have selected Senators Finneran's and Burke's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Doyle, Costello, Glynn and O'Meara may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise. I regret that I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator McGowan on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility.
