Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 28 May 1998

Vol. 155 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Avril Doyle that, on the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to make a statement on the implications of the exclusion of VTOS courses from the newly launched back to education scheme.

I also received notice from Senator Mooney of the following matter:

The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to outline the protection she can offer to Irish citizens seeking US visas-green cards against fraudulent and misleading advertisements placed in Irish newspapers offering a paid service to process applications with the US authorities.

I also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources to carry out, as a matter of urgency, a further study and analysis of the effects on inland waterways, specifically on the ecosystem of Lough Derg, of the growth of the zebra mussel population.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation to ensure that the funding for recreational sport, special projects and ordinary grants are paid to Vocational Education Committees on time.

I also received notice from Senator Keogh of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to review and broaden the remit of the Refugee Agency.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Doyle's and Senator Mooney's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators O'Meara, Costello and Keogh may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
