Vol. 155 No. 17

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Meara that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources to carry out, as a matter of urgency, a further study and analysis on the effects on inland waterways, and specifically on the eco system of Lough Derg, of the growth of the zebra mussel population.

I have also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to make a grant to the De Valois Centre for Dance and the Performing Arts to ensure its continuing presence in its current premises in Meeting House Lane, Mary's Abbey, Dublin 7.

I have also received notice from Senator Mooney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to consider harnessing the celebrity status of our national heroes through radio, television and other media advertisements to encourage adults with poor writing and reading skills to avail of the adult literacy courses provided throughout the country and to consider the introduction of the Book Stand scheme in Ireland following its success in the United Kingdom.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senator O'Meara and Senator Norris and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Mooney may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
