Tuesday, 3 Nov 1998

Vol. 156 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Daniel Kiely that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to consider the forming of a Book Town in Ireland and in this regard to give special consideration to Listowel, County Kerry.

I have also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to provide adequate administrative staffing and resources for the distribution of the young people's facilities and services fund to successful applicants and for the evaluation and the supervision of its use.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform in consultation with the Garda Commissioner to address the serious public concern regarding attacks on the elderly and property break-ins in the western counties.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Kiely and Costello's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Finneran may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
