Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 1 Mar 2000

Vol. 162 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Chambers that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to outline the future role of vocational education committees and their involvement in the development of adult education programmes and with new education centres.

I have also received notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to consider the importance of our State airports as fundamental infrastructural utilities that have huge influence on the vibrancy or otherwise of our economy.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to clarify if the Office of Public Works intends to vacate its depot at the Military Barracks, Summerhill, Nenagh, and, if so, to outline the reasons and when it will take place.

I have also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to allocate additional emergency funding towards the Mozambique flooding disaster.

I have also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation to ensure that all recreational and sporting buildings and structures are free of asbestos.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Chambers, O'Meara, Taylor-Quinn and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Chambers's and Senator Taylor-Quinn's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret that I have had to rule Senator Costello's matter out of order as the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation has no official responsibility in this matter. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
