Wednesday, 8 Mar 2000

Vol. 162 No. 13

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator John Cregan that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to favourably consider County Limerick, in particular Newcastle West and Kilmallock, in the proposed decentralisation of Departments.

I have also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Health and Children if he is aware of the difficulties, particularly in the Eastern Regional Health Authority area, which the new regulations in relation to crèche and pre-school facilities, some of which are leading to closures, are causing the owners of such businesses and parents of children attending these facilities.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to clarify if the Office of Public Works intends to vacate its depot at the Military Barracks, Sum merhill, Nenagh, and if so, to outline the reasons and when it will take place.

I have also received notice from Senator Quill of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to address the issue of the future preservation and protection by the State of the 700 acre Mount Congreve Estate, Waterford, which has one of the world's larger and more important collection of rare trees and shrubs.

I have also received notice from Senator Caffrey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Enterprise to prepare and submit to the EU a case for a public service obligation subvention for the Knock-Dublin route, in view of the importance of Knock Airport.

I have also received notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to arrange to have a section of a Department decentralised to Kilrush, County Clare.

I regard the matters raised by Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Cregan and Cosgrave and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
