I have received notice from Senator Costello that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to ascertain why five Irish women were strip searched by Scottish police after being arrested following a peaceful protest at the Trident nuclear submarine base at Faslane, Glasgow, in Scotland on 12 February 2001; and to secure a commitment from the British Government that strip searching of women in such circumstances does not occur again.
I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development to address the problem of inferior accommodation at the Department's offices in Roscommon town.
I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to ensure that a verification protocol is added to the United Nations Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, 1975, when this topic is discussed next at the United Nations.
I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and I have selected Senator Costello's and Senator Finneran's matters. They will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Henry may give notice on another day of the matter she wishes to raise.
