Address to Seanad Éireann by Distinguished Person: Motion.

I move:

That Seanad Éireann agrees with the recommendation of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges that, in accordance with the provisions for the address to Seanad Éireann by Distinguished Persons, Mr. David Byrne, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, be invited to address Seanad Éireann on 14 November 2001 and the following arrangements shall apply in relation to that day. The Seanad shall sit at 11 a.m. for the purpose of the address; the proceedings at such address shall consist of a speech by the Cathaoirleach welcoming Commissioner Byrne, the address by Commissioner Byrne at the conclusion of which he will reply to questions from Members and a speech of thanks by the Leas-Chathaoirleach for the address; the proceedings shall conclude no later than 1 p.m. whereupon the Seanad shall suspend its sitting until 2.30 p.m. when the ordinary routine of business shall ensue.
