Seanad Éireann debate -

Vol. 168 No. 26

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator O'Meara that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minster for Public Enterprise to ensure that Irish Rail does not reduce the amount of freight carried by the company, as such a reduction could have serious implications for road users.

I have also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to appoint extra judges to address the increasing backlog of cases in our courts; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have also received notice from Senator John Cregan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to examine ways of removing the anomaly that currently exists whereby higher education grant applications are refused approval and payment of such grants when a parent of such an applicant has won prize money in the national lottery.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business.
