Vol. 199 No. 8

Visit of Czech Delegation.

Before continuing with Committee Stage, I have the honour to extend a warm welcome to the delegation from the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, members of the standing commission on rural development. The delegation is led by Senator Ms Ludmilla Mullerova, chairperson of the commission. On my own behalf and that of all my colleagues in Seanad Éireann, I extend a very warm welcome and sincere good wishes for a successful visit to Ireland and for a happy Christmas and a bright new year.

I am not sure if this is a point of order or a point of procedure but I wonder if it would be appropriate for the Leas-Chathaoirleach to inform the delegation that one of our Members, Senator Ivana Bacik, is the granddaughter of a prominent Czech citizen who did great honour to this country by bringing the art of cutting glass here and reviving the glass factory in Waterford. The delegation members might be interested in this information because of the very distinguished tradition of glass cutting in the Czech Republic.

Senator Norris has done that job for me.
