Readmission Agreements: Motion

I move:

That Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion under Protocol No. 21 on the position of the United Kingdom and Ireland in respect of the area of freedom, security and justice annexed to the Treaty on European Union and to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, to accept the following measure:

Council Decision 2007/341/EC of 19th April 2007 on the conclusion of the Agreement between the European Community and the Russian Federation on readmission,

a copy of which was laid before Seanad Éireann on 10th December 2012.

Council Decision 2011/118/EU of 18th January 2011 on the conclusion of the Agreement between the European Union and Georgia on the readmission of persons residing without authorisation,

a copy of which was laid before Seanad Éireann on 10th December 2012.

There is an Irish citizen who is currently imprisoned in Sri Lanka. I am not sure we should be agreeing anything with regard to Sri Lanka while somebody is illegally detained in the most disgraceful way. They are playing cat and mouse with us and treating the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and this country with contempt. I do not agree to it, but I am not going to call a vote.
