Vol. 228 No. 2

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator John Crown that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health, recognising Huntington’s disease as a severe, chronic and life-limiting disease, to put in place better specialist care facilities for Huntington’s disease and more realistic support services for Huntington’s disease patients and their families.

I have also received notice from Senator John Kelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to consider establishing a small group to oversee the delivery of a national network of off-road cycle trails in order to assist with the timely delivery of the national cycling strategy.

I have also received notice from Senator Deirdre Clune of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to provide an update on his proposals to regulate clamping on private property.

I have also received notice from Senator Thomas Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to approve an extension to O'Carolan College, Nobber, County Meath.

I have also received notice from Senator Mark Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to outline the steps he is taking to protect small retailers and whether he is aware that retail multiples are selling products at retail prices in their outlets at less than the cost that small shop owners are able to purchase the same product from wholesale.

I have also received notice from Senator Mary Moran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to address the removal of a medical card from a person (details supplied) who has a very serious medical condition, hydrocephalus, with significant financial implications for his family as well as a high level of care needs.

I have also received notice from Senator Fidelma Healy Eames of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, in view of the intrinsic local and national value of Renmore Gymnastics Club, Galway, to outline the best way forward to achieve funding success in light of its recent unsuccessful grant application.

I have also received notice from Senator Colm Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government to put in place a fast track procedure between the ESB and local authorities to enable properties which have been vacant to be reconnected in a shorter timeframe.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Crown, Kelly, Clune and Byrne as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Daly, Moran and Healy Eames may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise. I regret I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Colm Burke as the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter.
