Statute Law Revision Bill 2016: [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil] Report and Final Stages

I welcome the Minister of State. This is a Seanad Bill which has been amended by the Dáil. In accordance with Standing Order 138, it is deemed to have passed its First, Second and Third Stages in the Seanad and placed on the Order Paper for Report Stage. On the question, "That the Bill be received for final consideration," a Minister may explain the purpose of the amendments made by the Dáil. This is looked upon as the report of the Dáil amendments to the Seanad. For Senators' convenience, I have arranged for the printing and circulation of the amendments. The Minister of State will deal separately with the subject of each related group of amendments. I have also circulated a proposed grouping of amendments. Senators may speak only once on Report Stage. I remind them that the only matters that may be discussed are the amendments made by the Dáil.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be received for final consideration."

Two minor technical amendments were made to the Bill in the Dáil. The first added a Short Title to the 1800 Act, which is being reinstated by section 3 of the Bill, to eliminate a minor anomaly that would otherwise have left the 1800 Act as the only Act in force on the Statute Book without a Short Title. The second amendment is to the Long Title of the Bill to reflect the amendment to the Statute Law Revision Act 2007 provided for in section 3. This is to avoid any doubt that the provisions of section 3 are within the ambit of the Bill.

Question put and agreed to.
