Seanad Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 28 Feb 2023

Vol. 292 No. 6

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator Victor Boyhan - The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to provide an update on the Institutional Burials Act 2022, which provides a lawful basis for the excavation, exhumation and identification of remains, and their dignified reburial at the site of the former mother and baby institution in Tuam and at any site where intervention is required to address manifestly inappropriate burials.

Senator Martin Conway - The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the opening of a kidney dialysis service at Ennis General Hospital.

Senators Annie Hoey, Paul Gavan and Frances Black - The need for the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to make a statement on the delay in considering the Labour Court recommendations on pay scales for adult education tutors employed by education and training boards.

Senator Garret Ahearn - The need for the Minister for Justice to make a statement on the timelines for the tendering of the new Garda stations at Clonmel and Macroom.

Senator Maria Byrne - The need for the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to make a statement on the introduction of a veterinary medicine school in the University of Limerick.

Senator Fiona O'Loughlin - The need for the Minister for Finance to make a statement on supports proposed for first-time buyers whose fixed mortgage interest rate is increasing due to the impact of the eviction ban and the resultant delays in drawdown of mortgages.

Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister for Transport to provide an update, including timelines, for the completion of the M11 motorway from Oylegate to Rosslare.

Senator Lynn Boylan - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on accommodating pets in a rental property.

Senator Robbie Gallagher - The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on delayed ambulance response times in the north-east region.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected Senators Boyhan, Conway, Hoey, Gavan and Black, who are sharing time, Ahearn, Byrne and O'Loughlin and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Boylan on the ground that the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters that they wish to raise.
