Vol. 293 No. 5

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters: Senator Martin Conway - The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on plans for a national haemochromatosis strategy to increase awareness, diagnosis and equitable access to testing and treatment. Senator Fiona O'Loughlin - The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence to provide an update on the reopening of the military swimming pool at the Defence Forces Training Centre at the Curragh, County Kildare. Senator Seán Kyne - The need for the Minister for Education to make a statement on proposed changes to the primary school curriculum as it relates to reduced time to be spent teaching Irish and its implications for the 20-year strategy for the Irish language. Senator Fintan Warfield - The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to provide an update on the status of the programme for Government commitment in respect of the roadmap for digital creative industries, including any work undertaken by Enterprise Ireland and the agencies under his remit. Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to provide an update on the designation of the National College of Ireland under the Higher Education Authority Act 2022. Senator Garret Ahearn - The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on progress on the proposed residential unit at St. Patrick's Hospital, Cashel, County Tipperary. Senator Lynn Boylan - The need for the Minister for Transport to use the powers available under section 8 of the Road Safety Authority Act 2006 to direct the Road Safety Authority, RSA, to publish statistics relating to road safety. Senator Timmy Dooley - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to develop a scheme to address public water pipe network upgrades, particularly in settings prone to leakages. Senator Marie Sherlock - The need for the Minister for Transport to amend the RSA’s new regulations, entitled Premises and Equipment Guidelines on the Minimum Requirements for CVR Test Operators, to ensure that commercial vehicle roadworthiness, CVR, test operators without drive-through facilities, but who meet every other standard as per the 2022 regulations, can be kept in business and not forced to close as a result of the new regulations. Senator Robbie Gallagher - The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the implementation of the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest strategy to provide Garda and emergency service vehicles with automated external defibrillators. Of the matters raised by Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected Senators Conway, O'Loughlin, Kyne and Warfield, and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Dooley on the grounds that the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I welcome the Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, Deputy Patrick O'Donovan, and I call on Senator Martin Conway.
