Vol. 295 No. 5

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters: Senator Fintan Warfield - The need for the Minister for Justice to make a statement on the proposed sale of alcohol Bill, including the timeframe for the extension of opening hours. Senator John Cummins - The need for the Minister for Social Protection to extend eligibility for illness benefit to those who pay class S PRSI contributions. Senator Fiona O'Loughlin - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on funding for Kildare County Council. Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to outline the measures in place across Government to respond to extraordinary weather events, and the supports available for businesses and households impacted by such events. Senator John McGahon - The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the criteria to be used in the provision of FreeStyle Libre. Senator Robbie Gallagher - The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to make a statement on the UK Government's Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Bill. Senator Sharon Keogan - The need for the Minister for Housing. Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on the right of local authorities to vary their county development plans in light of a significant population increase, particularly where such variance would reverse the de-zoning of serviced lands as per the planning guidelines of 1 July 2022.

The matters raised by the Senators are suitable for discussion and I have selected Senators Warfield, Cummins, O'Loughlin and Malcolm Byrne and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Keogan on the ground that the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
