Seanad Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 10 Oct 2023

Vol. 296 No. 6

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works to provide an update on the preferred site for the new Coast Guard station at Courtown Harbour, County Wexford, and a timeline for its construction.

Senator Robbie Gallagher - The need for the Minister for Education to make a statement on the shortage of autism spectrum disorder, ASD, units at both primary and post-primary levels in Monaghan town.

Senator Mark Wall - The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the provision of a new hospital at St. Vincent's Hospital, Athy, County Kildare.

Senator Mary Fitzpatrick - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide an update on the commencement date for 215 housing units on Stanley Street, Dublin 7.

Senator Sharon Keogan - The need for the Minister for Social Protection to make a statement on the commencement of sections 6 to 9 of the Civil Registration (Amendment) Act 2014.

Senator Marie Sherlock - The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to make a statement on the development by the Workplace Relations Commission of a code of practice for remote and flexible work, as set out in the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023.

Senator Tom Clonan - The need for the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to make a statement on the gap of €307 million in core funding for the third-level sector and the impact this shortfall in funding has on the quality of university teaching, research and innovation and the world ranking of Irish universities. Senator Gerard P. Craughwell - The need for the Minister of Justice to defer the introduction of the new Garda operational model in Drogheda and Ardee districts. Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected Senators Malcolm Byrne, Robbie Gallagher, Mark Wall, Mary Fitzpatrick, Sharon Keogan and Marie Sherlock and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Craughwell on the ground that the relevant Minister has no official responsibility in the matter raised. I regret that I had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Clonan on the ground that it anticipates the statements on the budget which are scheduled to take place in the Seanad today.
