Vol. 298 No. 11

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Dara Calleary. I also welcome Dr. Richard Hogan and C.J. Cassells, who are with us in the Visitors Gallery. They are guests of our colleague Senator Shane Cassells. I am delighted they are able to be here to see Senator Cassells in action later this afternoon.

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator Fiona O'Loughlin - The need for the Minister of State with responsibility for special education and inclusion to make a statement on plans to reform the process of special education teacher allocations.

Senator Martin Conway - The need for the Minister for Education to provide an update on the provision of a new secondary school in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare.Senator Victor Boyhan - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on the enhanced defective concrete blocks grant scheme, including his response to the draft report from the European Parliament's petitions committee regarding concerns about the scheme.

Senator Mark Wall - The need for the Minister for Education to make a statement on the opening and location of a new special school in Kildare.

Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications to make a statement on the plans in place to respond to a potential collapse in the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation.

Senator Timmy Dooley - The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on the upgrade of the Ennistymon-Lahinch wastewater treatment plant.

Senator Garret Ahearn - The need for the Minister for Transport to make a statement on the N24 road project and the two new connecting link roads within Clonmel.

Senator Lynn Boylan - The need for the Minister for Transport to make a statement on the impact of private jets on the Dublin Airport passenger cap.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, the Cathaoirleach has selected Senators Fiona O'Loughlin, Martin Conway, Victor Boyhan and Mark Wall and they will be taken now. I regret that the matter raised by Senator Dooley had to be ruled out of order on the grounds that the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
