SELECT COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS, MARINE AND NATURAL RESOURCES debate -
Tuesday, 7 Jun 2005

Business of Select Committee.

We have been invited to visit an e-government conference in Cork on 14 and 15 June. I propose that the clerk travel to the conference with the ICT consultant we have engaged. If a member of the committee would like to attend, that is acceptable. On the same day we have been invited to visit Castletownbere by the Castletownbere Business Development Association. Deputy O'Donovan has raised the matter of the fishing fleet in the town which has complained that fishery officers working there are overzealous. The fishermen have asked to meet the committee during the visit. I have agreed to travel to Castletownbere with the clerk to the committee if that meets with the committee's agreement.

When is that visit due to take place?

Next week. There will be another formal visit to Castletownbere, Sherkin Island and the mussel farm in Bantry at the start of September. We must also finalise the visit to Dublin Port in the next few days. These issues will arise at the next meeting of the joint committee but I wanted to flag them today.
