Select Committee on Enterprise and Economic Strategy debate -

SECTION 2.

May we have a list of the amendments?

Yes, they have been circulated.

Is there only one amendment?

There are two amendments and there is a notice of a typographical error in amendment No. 2.

I move amendment No. 1:

In page 2, line 24, to delete "providing for renewal."

This is a drafting amendment, proposed to remove any doubt that paragraph (a) of the new subsection (6) to be inserted in section 8 of the 1940 Act applies to renewals and to successive renewals of minerals prospecting licences. The words to be deleted —"providing for renewal"— are not necessary in any event but could cause doubt if they remained in situ. They are superfluous and we are removing them as the section makes it quite clear that is the purpose. It is purely a drafting amendment.

The section already provides for renewal and I presume there is no need for the repetition. We have no difficulty with this amendment.

Amendment agreed to.
Section 2, as amended, agreed to.
