SELECT COMMITTEE ON ENTERPRISE AND SMALL BUSINESS debate -
Friday, 22 Mar 2002

Vol. 5 No. 2

Message to Dáil.

In accordance with Standing Order 79B, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Select Committee on Enterprise and Small Business has completed its consideration of the Competition Bill, 2001, and has made amendments thereto.

I thank the members of the committee for the good work and the excellent progress made today on this important legislation. In particular, I thank Deputies Flanagan and Rabbitte for their co-operation, which was very much appreciated.

I thank the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and her officials, one of whom is from the Howth Road-Raheny area. With a couple of people from the Howth Road-Raheny in charge, no wonder everything went so smoothly today. I also thank the Clerk to the Committee, the secretarial and other support services.

Chairman, will the Raheny team manage to deliver transcripts before Report Stage?

The Raheny team can deliver anything at any time but unfortunately delivering transcripts is not a matter for the Raheny team at present. We will certainly do our utmost to make sure that you receive them by Wednesday.

Chairman, I thank you and your staff in particular. I also thank the members of the committee for facilitating the speedy passage of this legislation. If we all were as familiar with where those with whom we work lived and the constituency where they voted, we might even do things much more rapidly or be able to get the kind of poll-topping performance that you seem to achieve from time to time. Notwithstanding that——

An abuse of a dominant position.

Yes, I am beginning to wonder. I thank you, Chairman, and Deputies Flanagan and Rabbitte.

Thank you, Tánaiste.

The Select Committee adjourned at 3.10 p.m.
