Select Committee on Finance and General Affairs debate -
Wednesday, 3 May 1995

SECTION 11.

Amendments Nos. 18, 19, 20 and 21 form a composite proposal, and will be dealt with together, by agreement.

I move amendment No. 18:

In page 15, subsection (1), line 48, after "following" to insert "in the interests of the proper and orderly regulation and supervision of approved stock exchanges and their member firms or any or all of those".

Why does the Minister deem it necessary to do this?

Section 11 (1)(a) states "relating to the prudent regulation and supervision of approved stock exchanges and their member firms"; paragraph (d) states "in the interests of the prudent regulation of the stock exchange" and paragraph (e) states "in the interests of the prudent regulation of the stock exchange". It was felt that it would be better to replace that at the beginning with the all encompassing phrase "in the interests of the proper and orderly regulation and supervision of approved stock exchanges and their member firms or any or all of these".

It is the same explanation which was given earlier for the removal of "prudent".

Amendment agreed to.

I move amendment No. 19:

In page 16, subsection (1)(a), lines 2 to 4, to delete all words from and including "relating" in line 2 down to and including line 4.

I move amendment No. 21:

In page 16, subsection (1)(e), lines 21 to 23, to delete all words from and including "in" in line 21 down to and including "these" in line 23.

Amendment agreed to.

Amendments Nos. 22, 33 and 35 are related and can be taken together.

I move amendment No. 22:

In page 16, subsection (1), line 27, after "Employment" to insert "in the interests of the proper and orderly regulation and supervision of stock exchanges and their member firms and published in the Iris Oifigiúil”.
