Select Committee on Finance and General Affairs debate -
Thursday, 17 Apr 1997

SECTION 30.

I move amendment No. 147:

In page 26, line 35 to delete "sixtieth" and substitute "forty fifth".

Does this amendment relate to cases where candidates die?

It reduces the time from the sixtieth day to the forty-fifth day. I was not involved in the debate but I understood the amendment was agreed last week.

Perhaps the Minister could consult his officials.

The term the sixtieth day is currently in page 26, line 35. The amendment seeks to reduce that to the forty-fifth day.

What will be the effect of that?

The amendment relates to reducing the period in which a person can make a claim for £5,000. The other aspect is cases where people die.

I will consider that aspect again.

Another amendment relates to intestacy or delays in wills.
