SELECT COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND CHILDREN debate -
Thursday, 2 Dec 2004

Business of Select Committee.

The clerk to the committee has been asked to determine whether the select committee wishes to meet tomorrow morning to continue its consideration of the Bill. It is necessary to decide on the matter now to ensure editorial and broadcasting facilities would be made available. Do members wish to meet at 10 a.m. tomorrow to complete Committee Stage? Do they think our consideration can be completed tonight?

We would like to complete it tonight but it may not be possible to do so as many amendments have yet to be considered. Can we plan to meet tomorrow in case such a meeting is necessary?

We will do our best.

Will we conclude at 9 p.m. tonight?

Yes. We can meet in the morning if we do not finish our consideration of the Bill. We will try to complete Committee Stage if we can. If I remind members that certain issues have already been discussed, I do so to advance the discussion rather than to try to stifle debate. If they have a difficulty with my decisions, they can say so.
