SELECT COMMITTEE ON JUSTICE, EQUALITY, DEFENCE AND WOMEN’S RIGHTS debate -
Tuesday, 31 May 2005

Business of Select Committee.

Is it intended to do anything further this evening?

We have done fairly well and everybody is somewhat tired. I am aware that the Minister is available for another hour and that he will be available tomorrow but not the day after. However, the Minister of State will be available on that day.

His instructions are to remain until dawn if necessary.

We commence our consideration of the Bill at 5.15 p.m. tomorrow.

I understood we would meet at 11.45 a.m.

The committee will meet at 11 a.m. to debate a motion. The Grangegorman legislation is still going through. There is another Bill in the Dáil in which Deputy Costello is involved. This committee will, therefore, meet at 5.15 p.m. to deal with the complaints investigation and procedures part of the Bill and the inspectorate. There is very little else. There are two parts we must try to get through tomorrow.

Do we have the option to sit on Thursday?

Yes. The Minister will be here tomorrow.

For how long will the Minister be here tomorrow?

Until dawn on Thursday.

Does the Minister mean dawn on Wednesday?

I mean dawn on Thursday, the continuation of Wednesday night.

It is the intention to start at5.15 p.m. tomorrow and to break for half an hour at 7 p.m. or 7.30 p.m.

Some members may want to get to banks to buy dollars or other currencies.

It will be a long and heavy night.

The committee will meet from 5.15 p.m. until 7 p.m. Is it intended to resume at that point?

The committee will sit at 5.15 p.m. tomorrow. We will break for coffee before the conclusion of business in the House and return to try to finish the two principal parts.

What about Thursday?

The Minister will not be here on Thursday.

We will have the Minister of State.

It is not the same.

We will work as long as we can.

What is the committee dealing with tomorrow morning?

There is an EU motion onco-operation on civil procedures at 11 a.m. Isthe Minister taking that?

Yes.

The select committee adjourned at 9.40 p.m. until 5.15 p.m. on Wednesday, 1 June 2005.
