917 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will examine a case (details supplied) with a view to reviewing procedures for the residency rules for persons holding work permits; if a standard minimum period can be introduced between the loss of a sponsor and the expiry of residency rights; if he will consider altering the present regime to reflect family circumstances as in this case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. It has never been the case that the renewal of permission to remain in respect of a person who entered the State on foot of an employment permit was solely contingent on the continuance of that employment. Each case has always been considered on its individual merits having regard to the great variety of circumstances that arise.
