361 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if a medical card will be issued on medical grounds to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow given the history of the case as outlined in applications and appeals in previous years; and if a further appeal will be arranged without delay to consider all aspects of the case and to approve the application without delay. Responsibility for the provision of a medical card is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board or authority. My Department has, therefore, asked the CEO of the South Eastern Health Board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
