184 Mr. Crowe asked the Taoiseach the amount spent by his Department on legal advice and lawyers; the amount paid out in settlement of legal proceedings against his Department, including cases settled prior to coming to court in each of the past three years, omitting expenses relating to tribunals of inquiry. My Department has paid €145,000 to 29 current and former staff members following the settlement by the Department of Finance of an equal pay claim against all Departments lodged by the Civil and Public Services Union.

The figures do not include expenses relating to the Moriarty tribunal or the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.
