191 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the anomaly in the health service, whereby a person who retires from the Eastern Health Board and returns to work in a temporary capacity can work 16 hours without his or her pension entitlements being affected; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the application in the health boards of the abatement of pension provisions as set out in the local government superannuation scheme which applies in this instance is a matter for each health board. My Department has therefore asked the regional chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
