384 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government his views on whether a restriction can apply to a person holding a migrant working permit, who has been a resident here for more than six months, from standing as a candidate in the local elections in June. Subject to the disqualifications set out in section 13 of the Local Government Act 2001, a person is eligible for election and membership of a local authority if he or she is a citizen of Ireland or is ordinarily resident in the State and has or will attain the age of 18 years on or before polling day at a local election.
