441 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason funding for the stay in school” retention initiative, SSRI, which operated successfully in St. Vincent’s CBS, Glasnevin, is being terminated; the reason the school has not been invited to participate in the school completion programme; the way in which he proposes to help the school to deal with the learning and behavioural problems which will be accentuated by the loss of the SSRI; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The options for the future of the school completion programme, including the stay in school retention strand, are being considered in the context of a broad review of all initiatives to tackle educational disadvantage which is currently under way in my Department, the outcome of which is expected shortly.
