Breen asked the Minister for Health and Children if, in view of the poor services available to parents of children with special needs in the west Clare peninsula, he will provide financial assistance to those who have to take their children over 80 miles for private consultation. 477 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Health and Children when children with special needs in the west Clare peninsula will receive full time professional services, namely, autism services, speech therapists, social workers and clinical psychologists. [11989/04]

Responsibility for the provision of services in the Clare area is a matter, in the first instance, for the Mid-Western Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the Mid-Western Health Board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him.
