590 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children further to previous parliamentary questions if he will expedite an appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who is waiting for a medical card; and if he will explain the delay in dealing with this matter. [11698/04]
View answerResponsibility for the provision of a medical card is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health authority. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply to him directly.

I understand that the Deputy raised this matter previously in a parliamentary question last January and was advised that the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board would investigate the matter raised and reply directly to him. My Department has made further inquiries with the chief executive officer and has been advised that a letter issued to the Deputy on 19 April 2004.
