625 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of children on the intellectual disability database for the ERHA who are in need of residential care; the amount of money made available in 2004 for this service; the number of beds that this equates to; and the number of beds to be allocated to each of the area health boards within the ERHA. The latest published information in relation to the number of children on the intellectual disability database for the Eastern Regional Health Authority is from 2002. The 2003 information is expected to be published by the end of June. As responsibility for the provision of services to persons with intellectual disability or autism in the eastern region is a matter, in the first instance, for the Eastern Regional Health Authority, I have asked the regional chief to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.

Numbers of children identified in ERHA data set as requiring a full-time residential service — source, NIDD 2002.

Question:

626 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the need for a respite service for persons with intellectual disability attending Prosper Fingal in north County Dublin; and the finance that has been made available to develop this facility for clients and their families. [12123/04]

View answer

Responsibility for the provision of funding for services, including respite services, for people with an intellectual disability and those with autism in north County Dublin, is a matter, in the first instance, for the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has, therefore, asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him.
