Question:

274 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if the disabled person’s grant scheme was reviewed; and if he will merge it with the essential repairs scheme and the housing repairs for the elderly scheme in view of the huge backlog of applications that exist in a large number of local authority areas. A review will be finalised shortly. I will then consider the changes that may be required to ensure that the scheme continues to assist the persons in greatest need of it. The relationship between the disabled persons, essential repairs grants and the special scheme of housing aid for the elderly is also being considered in the context of the review.
