366 Mr. O’Connor asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans to fund Garda projects which intervene with young persons during 2004 in Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19240/04]
View answerMy Department funds three Garda youth diversion projects in the Tallaght district, namely, the key to engaging youth, Killinarden, Fettercairn and Glenshane; the Jobstown action for youth and the youth enhancement in Whitechurch projects. Funding of €154,000 has been allocated to the key to engaging youth project to meet its anticipated expenditure in the current year. Interim payments for 2004 have been allocated to the Jobstown and Whitechurch projects pending final examination of these projects' accounts. It is not envisaged that additional Garda youth diversion projects will be established in the short term. However, the possibility of funding of further projects in the future in the light of prevailing budgetary conditions will remain under review.
