160 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has had contact with the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, with regard to the Middle East peace process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2652/05]
View answerI have not yet had the opportunity to make direct contact with President Abbas. The Taoiseach telephoned President Abbas to congratulate him on his election victory shortly after the result was formally announced and the Government will maintain contact with President Abbas in the weeks to come. It is my intention to visit the region in the near future and I hope to meet with President Abbas at that time.
