Questions (239)

Richard Bruton

Question:

288 Mr. Bruton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he is aware that many pensioners of Eircom are now on pensions which are considerably less than those to which they would have been entitled had they remained as members of the Civil Service; if the Government provided conditions in its sale arrangements when Eircom was privatised that the legal rights of workers under that Act should be protected; the steps he intends to take to vindicate the right of workers under that legislation. I am aware that individual pensioners, formerly employed by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, believe their pension entitlements are not being fully respected. An appeals process is under way in regard to the issues raised by the pensioners concerned. My Department and the Department of Finance, which has overall responsibility for public service pension policy, are examining the complex issues involved with a view to coming to a determination in the matter.
