Questions (319)

John Curran

Question:

374 Mr. Curran asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that all RAPID areas are not the same in terms of size and population; if he intends to take measures to ensure that resources allocated to RAPID areas will not only be on an area-by-area basis but will also be allocated in proportion to the size and population of each area. I am aware of the variations in the population and size across RAPID areas. However, the RAPID programme is essentially about prioritising investment in areas experiencing particular disadvantage rather than dividing resources between RAPID areas. I accept that the issue can arise in certain circumstances, such as the disbursement of the RAPID leverage fund. I have asked ADM to consider the matter and I await its consideration of the matter.
