209 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if a review has taken place or will take place into the impact of amending Section 19 of the Broadcasting Act 2001 as recommended by Section 52 of the Disability Bill 2004; if such a review will take into account the impact of such regulations on the competitiveness of industry here as laid out in the Government’s White Paper on Better Regulation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, which has responsibility for the Disability Bill 2004, has consulted my Department regarding the preparation of its legislative proposals. My Department will continue to engage with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform as necessary regarding the development and implementation of the legislation in so far as it relates to the broadcasting sector.

I have no function in these matters. This is a matter for the Commission for Communications Regulation, ComReg, in accordance with the provisions of the Wireless Telegraphy Acts 1926 to 1972, the Broadcasting and Wireless Telegraphy Act 1988 and the Communications Regulation Act 2002.
