Paul Connaughton

Question:

242 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science when the guidelines on the establishment of speed limits outside rural national schools will be published; if her attention has been drawn to the problems confronting the pupils, staff and parents of a school (details supplied) in County Galway, and to the facts that this school is situated on the busy N63, that the school playground is situated on the opposite side of the road and that if this school is to use the school warden system, the speed limit approaching the school from both sides will have to be reduced considerably; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The issue of speed control measures are outside the vested site area of the school to which the Deputy refers and should therefore be raised with the local authority. It will be open to the school's board of management to make an application under the 2006 summer works scheme for necessary safety measures within the school's boundary.
