The improvement and maintenance of non-national roads in County Kildare is a matter for Kildare County Council to be funded from its own resources supplemented by grants provided by my Department. The total allocation to Kildare County Council in 2005 from my Department for improvement and maintenance works on non-national roads is €27,606,720. This compares with an initial allocation of €18,373,793 to the council in 2004. The 2005 allocation therefore represents an increase of €9,232,927 or 50% on the 2004 initial allocation. I am satisfied that this significantly increased level of State funding, supplemented with Kildare County Council's own resources, provides appropriately for the council's non-national road requirements in 2005.
