228 Mr. Kehoe asked the Minister for Education and Science if her attention has been drawn to the fact that pupils attending a primary school (details supplied) in County Carlow have to wait almost half an hour after school finishes to be collected by the school bus; the person who is responsible for minding the children during this time; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The school transport appeals board considered an appeal in this case and found that the present level of service to the school referred to by the Deputy in the details supplied is reasonable and that the benefits of an exclusive service would not justify the costs involved. The question of the legal responsibility for the safety of children while boarding or alighting a school bus or while waiting for a service can only be determined having regard to the particular circumstances of each case, including the age of the children in question.
