Written answers

The Deputy's question relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, my Department has requested the parliamentary affairs division of the executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy. The responsibility for the provision of refuges lies with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

Mary Upton

Question:

200 Dr. Upton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the funding crisis that is affecting the delivery of service by the Women’s Aid national helpline; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that in 2003 emergency refuge accommodation was refused to 1,113 women; if she will review the support given to organisations that offer facilities to these women; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
