The school referred to by the Deputy has made an application for capital funding towards the provision of additional accommodation. The application has been assessed in accordance with the published prioritisation criteria which were revised last year following consultation with the education partners. The project is being considered in the context of the school building and modernisation programme 2005-09.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

456 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science when a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary will be provided with canteen, gym and music room facilities; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the school which is also a college for further education has no indoor sporting facilities; the way in which she intends to address same; and if she will make a statement on the matter. An initial application for additional accommodation, to include a number of specialist rooms, an administration area, a general purpose-dining area and servery, storage areas and a PE hall, was received from the management authority of the school referred to by the Deputy. Subsequently the school submitted an application for funding towards the provision of six small rooms in temporary accommodation for special needs education.

The overall accommodation needs of the school are being examined in my Department in order to ensure any capital funding being provided is appropriate to meet the school's long-term accommodation needs. My officials are in contact with the school authority in this regard. The project is being considered in the context of the school building and modernisation programme 2005-09.
