530 Mr. J. O’Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science, further to Parliamentary Question No. 269 of 16 February 2006 in respect of the long promised extension to a school, details supplied, in County Cork, when the current review of the school’s long-term accommodation needs began; the person by whom the review is being conducted; the contact which has been made with the school authorities in connection with the review; and when it is expected that the said review will be completed. The review, which has been under way for a number of months, is being conducted by officials of the school planning section. The review will involve a visit to the school and contact will be made with the school to arrange the visit as soon as it is feasible.

Question:

532 Mr. N. O’Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science when the building of a new school, details supplied, in County Cork will commence in view of the recent acquisition of a suitable site. [9129/06]

Minister for Education and Science (Ms Hanafin)

An application for capital funding towards the provision of a new school has been received from the school referred to by the Deputy. This application has been assessed in accordance with the published prioritisation criteria. The property management section of the Office of Public Works is in the process of acquiring a site to facilitate the provision of the new school building. Progression of the building project is dependent on the finalisation of the acquisition of this site and is being considered in the context of the school building and modernisation Programme 2006-2010.
